What is the Bowen Youth Centre?
The Bowen Youth Centre is a sociable, all-inclusive, youth-focused space running under the philosophy of Youth Inducated Recreation.
Funded by Bowen Island Municipality and managed by the Municipality’s Youth Services Coordinator, John Stiver .He can be reached @ (jstiver@bimbc.ca) (604 240 3467 cell) (Office 604 947 2717)
Youth aged 12-18 are welcome to stay for an hour, the whole night or just use the place as somewhere to meet up with friends before going out. Everyone is free to come and go as they please. During drop-ins, there are always things going on such as street hockey, skate sessions, BBQs, movies, gaming, and lots of goofing around! Ultimately, you’re sure to find someone and something that fits with where you’re at.
The centre is open every Thursday (4:00 - 7:00pm), Friday (6pm - 10:00pm) and Saturday (6-10:00pm) and all youth are welcome to hang out. We have the best pool table on Bowen Island, as well as a massive 52″ TVs, which make for great movie watching and multi-player gaming. There are also 2 networked PCs, allowing for music downloads, MSN, Facbook and multi-player gaming. If you have a band or would like to jam with other youth musicians, come down on Thursday's to use the youth centre space to practice or just jam.
Now just added this summer is a full functional mobile skateboard park in the car park of the youth center. It will be open the same hours as the youth center/ Come down and check it out.
The youth center offers an off island out trip once a mouth ( movies, rock climbing, PNE, and more). If you have any suggestions let us know at the center or talk to one of our outreach workers on the ferry Thursday and Friday on your way home from school.
If you turn up and want to make something new happen, there are always friendly, fun-loving Youth Workers on hand to help spontaneously facilitate stuff and offer quality advice. And if you need to check in on a more personal or private level, you’re welcome to talk with John. He’s around on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
